The Colorado Cactus and Succulent Society will host a special screening of the documentary Garden on the Move, followed by a conversation about the remarkable story behind the Wallace Desert Garden.

Garden on the Move tells the story of one of the largest and most ambitious plant relocations ever attempted. The film documents the effort to carefully move the Wallace Desert Garden collection from Scottsdale, Arizona, to its permanent home at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Over several years, thousands of mature cacti, succulents, trees, and desert plants were carefully excavated, transported, and replanted to preserve a globally significant collection representing deserts from around the world.

Following the film, there will be a discussion with Lee Brownson and Jason Wiley.

Lee Brownson served as Executive Director of the Wallace Desert Gardens Foundation and played a central leadership role in the preservation and relocation of the collection. He helped organize and lead the massive effort to transfer thousands of mature plants representing more than 1,600 species from deserts around the world to Boyce Thompson Arboretum, ensuring the long-term protection of this extraordinary collection.

Jason Wiley served as Director of Horticulture at Boyce Thompson Arboretum shortly after the Wallace Desert Garden was installed. He oversaw the horticulture staff responsible for maintaining the garden and worked with contractors and gardeners during the early years of establishing and caring for this unique desert plant collection.

Together they will share insights about the relocation project, the challenges of establishing the garden in its new home, and the long-term stewardship of one of the most remarkable desert plant collections in the United States.
