2026 CCSS Annual Banquet, Business Meeting & Elections with Special Guest Speaker Woody Minnich

Join the Colorado Cactus & Succulent Society for our Annual Banquet, one of our biggest gatherings of the year! Enjoy a delicious family-style Italian luncheon, reconnect with fellow plant enthusiasts, participate in our Annual Business Meeting and Board Elections, and experience a special presentation from internationally renowned cactus and succulent expert Wendell S. “Woody” Minnich.

Featured Presentation: Japan, Amazing Cacti and Succulent Nurseries

What happens when centuries of Japanese horticultural artistry meet the fascinating world of cacti and succulents?

Join Woody Minnich for a photographic journey through some of Japan’s most extraordinary cactus and succulent nurseries.

In the fall of 2025, Woody traveled to Japan with fellow enthusiasts Jack Tian and Moses Nuno, visiting remarkable growers and collectors from rural agricultural regions to rooftop greenhouses around Tokyo. Along the way, they discovered thousands of expertly cultivated plants, extraordinary cultivars, and innovative growing techniques.

From spectacular Ariocarpus cultivars such as ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Cauliflower’ to beautifully patterned Astrophytum asterias ‘Super Kabuto’, Woody will showcase plants that demonstrate the artistry, dedication, and innovation of Japanese growers.

Many nurseries specialize in perfecting individual species, developing exceptional forms, colors, and textures. Their attention to presentation, including handcrafted pottery and naturalistic staging, reflects Japan’s long tradition of bonsai.

Through Woody’s captivating photography and firsthand stories, we'll explore a side of cactus and succulent cultivation that few of us have had the opportunity to experience.

Whether you're a seasoned collector or simply appreciate beautiful plants, this is a presentation you won't want to miss!
