X-WR-CALDESC:The Colorado Cactus and Succulent Society will host a special
screening of the documentary Garden on the Move\, followed by a conversati
on about the remarkable story behind the Wallace Desert Garden.\n\nGarden
on the Move tells the story of one of the largest and most ambitious plant
relocations ever attempted. The film documents the effort to carefully mo
ve the Wallace Desert Garden collection from Scottsdale\, Arizona\, to its
permanent home at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Over several years\, thousand
s of mature cacti\, succulents\, trees\, and desert plants were carefully
excavated\, transported\, and replanted to preserve a globally significant
collection representing deserts from around the world.\n\nFollowing the f
ilm\, there will be a discussion with Lee Brownson and Jason Wiley.\n\nLee
Brownson served as Executive Director of the Wallace Desert Gardens Found
ation and played a central leadership role in the preservation and relocat
ion of the collection. He helped organize and lead the massive effort to t
ransfer thousands of mature plants representing more than 1\,600 species f
rom deserts around the world to Boyce Thompson Arboretum\, ensuring the lo
ng-term protection of this extraordinary collection.\n\nJason Wiley served
as Director of Horticulture at Boyce Thompson Arboretum shortly after the
Wallace Desert Garden was installed. He oversaw the horticulture staff re
sponsible for maintaining the garden and worked with contractors and garde
ners during the early years of establishing and caring for this unique des
ert plant collection.\n\nTogether they will share insights about the reloc
ation project\, the challenges of establishing the garden in its new home\
, and the long-term stewardship of one of the most remarkable desert plant
collections in the United States.\n\nEvent Details\n\nDoors open at 12:30
